SCSPE Planning Retreat
The South Carolina Society of Professional Engineers will hold its annual Planning Retreat on April 10, 2015 at the SC Fire Academy, Columbia, SC. “We’ve had a good year and now it is time to map out SCSPE future,” said SCSPE President George H. McCall, PE.
Vice President David Rykard, PE will lead the retreat. Rykard, current chair of the membership committee, will certainly have membership on the agenda. SCSPE will also work on the 2015-2016 budget and plan next year’s calendar of events. Chapter Directors, Presidents, and upcoming presidents are encouraged to come, but this retreat is open to the entire membership.
The retreat is scheduled for April 10, 2015 from 10:00 am–12:30 pm. The group will reconvene after lunch if needed. There is no fee to come to the retreat, but bring cash for the cafeteria. 2015 Disaster Assistance Program: Building Evaluator Training
Earn 5 Professional Development Hours upon completion of this 1 day program.
Weather-related events in our country cause the government to issue more than 50 major disaster declarations annually.
Training is crucial for any engineer, architect and building official who wish to be a resource to their community following a disaster. This program uses volunteers and mutual aid resources to assist local governments in safety evaluation of the built environment in an aftermath of a disaster. It is managed by the California Emergency Management Agency (EMA) with cooperation from professional organizations and is recognized in many states.

Michael Baker Jr. Inc.
Michael Baker Jr. Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker International, LLC, seeks an Engineering Transportation Manager in Columbia, SC office.
The Engineering Transportation Manager should be able to direct a multi-disciplinary engineering staff in our Columbia office. This manager will lead proposals and work with team members throughout initial pursuit, the contract negotiation process and may continue as part of the design team in the role of Project Manager, Design Manager or Principal in Charge. This manager may also lead transportation design assignments from state and local clients for a wide range of disciplines, including conventional design project assignments for preliminary and final design deliverables in addition to Design-Build and P3 procurement assistance, as needed. This manager will perform project management functions, client management functions, direct design staff and coordinate activities with other Baker offices and sub-consultants. The manager will also be responsible for preparing and executing departmental budgets.
The Candidate should be equally proficient in delivering existing projects, client interaction for pre-marketing for future work opportunities and selling the next project. Baker promotes a team-oriented approach to projects and seeks to maintain a long-term relationship with its employees and clients.
Minimal travel outside of South Carolina and within the Mid-Atlantic region should be expected.
Requirements:
- B. S. Civil Engineering
- A minimum of 15 years of related experience is desired
- Extensive knowledge of transportation design disciplines, including roadway, drainage, structures, utilities, maintenance of traffic, and related specialties as required.
- Strong DOT and Owner references are required.
- A strong track record demonstrating below budget and ahead of schedule performance is required.
- Strong leadership and staff management skills are also required. The candidate should have strong capabilities in one or more of the key disciplines cited above.
- P.E., South Carolina required, other states preferred as well
- Computer Skills: MS Office Suite
Preferences:
- Experience and positive relationship with Municipal, County Government and SCDOT Personnel

City of Rock Hill
The City of Rock Hill is seeking a City Engineer II to provide electrical engineer designs and serve as project manager for electrical distribution system construction projects. Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering supplemented by three to five years of experience in public utilities engineering design, plan review and project management. Certification as a Professional Engineer, or the ability to obtain Professional Engineering licensure in South Carolina within 2 years, is required. Myrtle Beach Bound for the 2015 SC Engineering Conference & Trade Show
The South Carolina Engineering Conference & Trade Show is returning to the Myrtle Beach on June 11-14, 2015. The conference will be held at the newly renovated Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort. This conference is a great way to earn PDHs as well as network with your peers.
This year, there are 44 sessions in 6 different tracks. The Conference begins the afternoon of Thursday, June 11. As usual, Friday will be a full day of PDH seminars (with multi tracks for different disciplines) as well as a Keynote address where lunch will be served.
